Combining the Box-Cox power and generalised log transformations to accommodate nonpositive responses in linear and mixed-effects linear models

چکیده
Transformation of a response variable can greatly expand the class problems for which linear regression model or mixed-model is appropriate. Beginning with fundamental work Box and Cox, maximum-likelihood-like estimation has been applied to select transformation from among family transformations, possible goals achieving approximate normality, removing nonlinearity in mean function, stabilizing variance. The Box-Cox power (BC) transformations by far most common methodology, it requires strictly positive response. In this article we introduce new that call nonpositives (BCN) allows inclusion few nonpositive values. BCN modification basic inspired generalised log, glog transformation, proposed use more limited variance normality. itself special case Johnson SU show derived turn simple BC family. We devise a classification algorithm based on generalised linear mixed model (GLMM) technology. The algorithm incorporates spline smoothing, additive model-type structures and model selection. For reasons of speed we employ the Laplace approximation, rather than Monte Carlo methods. Tests on real and simulated data show the algorithm to have good classification performance. Moreover, the result...
متن کاملThe Relation between Hearing Loss and Smoking among Workers Exposed to Noise, Using Linear Mixed Models
Introduction: Noise is one of the most common and harmful physical factors in the working environment and has physical and psychological effects on individuals. In this study, the audiometry results of industrial workers were modeled and the effect of noise and other factors on hearing loss was examined. Materials and Methods: ...
